Comic Strip/Panel and Editorial Cartoon Submission Guidelines

DUE TO POSTAL REGULATIONS REGARDING STAMPED MAIL, YOUR SUBMISSION WILL NOT BE RETURNED. YOU WILL RECEIVE ONLY A LETTER OF REPLY. A SELF-ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THE REPLY LETTER.

Please state in your cover letter whether you grant us permission to keep your submission on file. Otherwise, it will be discarded.

We are accepting submissions via e-mail. Please follow the instructions in the second-to-last paragraph. (If you cannot send your submission as a multi-page .pdf, please send it via "snail mail" (USPS).)

(If you sent your submission prior to September 1, 2009, we will return it if you included a SASE.)

Please send at least 24 cartoons. Use letter-sized paper for your submission. (Anything larger only makes our job more difficult.) Send only copies; NEVER, EVER send originals. Please do not put the submission in a portfolio or other folder. A staple or paper clip is sufficient.

You may send your cartoons in any size that will fit on letter-sized paper, but please make sure they will reduce to standard sizes. If you are unsure what the standard size is, please measure a cartoon or comic strip/panel from the newspaper and work in that proportion.

If you would prefer to e-mail your submission, please send it as a multi-page .pdf, with at least two dailies to a page. Please include your phone number and address in the body of the e-mail. Send it to cartoonsubmission@washpost.com.
